NX Nastran for FEMAP

Originally developed by NASA for the Saturn V project, Nastran Code has been an industry standard for over 40 years, Nastran is a finite element (FE) solver for stress, vibration, buckling, structural failure, heat transfer, acoustics and aeroelasticity analyses.

NX Nastran brand came into being when MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation (MSC) shared the code of MSC Nastran with Uni-Graphics Solutions(UGS) in 2002, as settlement for an anti-trust case. UGS was later acquired by Siemens which continued to develop and sell the code.

Manufacturers as well as engineering suppliers in aerospace, automotive, electronics, heavy machinery, medical device, and other industries rely on NX Nastran software for their critical engineering computing needs so they can produce safe, reliable and optimized designs within increasingly shorter design cycles.

Available as a standalone solver or integrated in Simcenter 3D Solutions, NX Nastran is credited with driving millions of dollars out of product development costs because building a computer model and digitally testing performance is cheaper, faster and more effective than the physical prototyping processes it replaces. With increased product quality, companies can also save on potential warranty costs.

FEMAP

FEMAP (which stands for Finite Element Modeling and Processing) is an advanced engineering simulation software program from Siemens. FEMAP creates finite element analysis (FEA) models of complex engineering products and systems, and displays solution results. FEMAP can model components, assemblies or systems and determine the behavioral response for a given operating environment in a virtual setup.

Engineers worldwide use FEMAP for modeling everything from simple solid components to complex structure like entire spacecraft assemblies and Offshore Structures. This versatile pre-processor is also used across a wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. From simple linear static analysis to advanced solutions based on ADINA form, FEMAP is the software of choice for real FEA made easy.

Open, compatible and Windows-based FEMAP is built on an advanced set of open technologies that allows it to work with almost all formats of digital product definition data. Based on the parasolid geometry kernel, FEMAP has direct access to 35% of the world’s digital product data. Additionally, several state-of-the-art geometric extensions are included, to ensure that FEMAP is able to work with data from virtually any source, directly and seamlessly (e.g. CATIA, Autodesk inventor, Pro/E, etc.). Another distinguishing feature of FEMAP is its ability to work with an unusually broad range of finite element solver solutions.

Using FEMAP’s digital simulation capabilities you can:

  • Predict and improve product performance and reliability
  • Reduce time-consuming and costly physical prototyping and testing
  • Evaluate different designs and materials
  • Optimize your designs and reduce material usage
